BEACH BOYS (1995)

East 17’s quest to shoot a video in the Caribbean continues... After the washout that was the stupendous Let It Rain video, E17 swore they would film their next vid somewhere hot, sunny... and abroad!

So when it came to making the video for the luscious Hold My Body Tight, three days in Spain were planned for filming and fun! Suitcases full of sun cream and shorts were packed up, a camera bought, a director arranged and then... Tony put his back out the day before the flight. Hasta la vista E17! Pop’s Most Accident-prone was once again ordered to rest and the trip to Spain was cancelled.



The band went ahead with their pre-tour rehearsals in Cornwall and the day before the Letting Off Steam Tour began in Glasgow, E17 found themselves on a Cornish beach gritting their teeth and pretending to be in sunnier climes!

It was VERY cold and the director and crew had to use artificial lighting to make it seem brighter and sunnier! While all the models had to freeze in shorts and skimpy tops, the band were wrapped up in layers of clothes.



Had the weather been hotter it could have been E17 in the nude as the boys discovered that their wardrobe had been sent on ahead to Glasgow! The morning was spent clothes shopping in St. Austell until the band felt happily kitted out and able to cope with the bracing sea breeze. (Awww shame!)

The boys were filmed strolling around a quarry on Bodmin Moor before heading out to a lonely beach - where to their relief a huge bonfire was lit to warm them up! E17 had their own private beach party as nobody was around to interrupt them - the video had been scheduled at the last minute and not even the Cornish fans knew that the band were on their doorstep! At the end of the evening the fire was put out and the boys were flown to Glasgow to get a good night’s rest before their first show of the tour.

So the band are still yet to shoot a video outside the UK. And the reason for this? Stand up Mr Mortimer... um if you can that is, watch the band and ooh! be careful on that ankle now. Did you just sneeze???!
