East 17 Face The CDUK Inquisition! (31st March 2006 - CD:UK)

We’re massively excited about East 17 reuniting – something they did live on this morning’s show! But a lot of time’s gone by since we last saw Tony, Terry, John and Brian together and you have to wonder: how well can they remember their own songs? Well, being sneaky sorts, we cornered them for a few minutes and asked them to complete seven of their most famous couplets, Never Mind The Buzzcocks-style. Here’s what they could (or, let’s be honest, couldn’t) remember...

1) ‘House Of Love’

First line: “We've gotta love our mother - gotta let her know”

J: Before something blows, innit?
Terry: Before SHE blows.
Tony: Before she explodes.
B: How could we forget the boom boom?!

Correct lyric: “Boom, boom - before she blows”

Current Score: 0/1

2) 'Gold'

First line: “More than gold, it's plain to see”

Tony: It’s one of mine – I know that much. But… erm, no. I can’t remember that one either! We’ll rehearse before the tour, honest!
B: That’s one of the songs we’re not doing! Got another one?

Correct lyric: ”Jesus wasn't sent to set a precious stone free”

Current Score: 0/2

3) ‘It’s Alright’

First line: “Fear no evil, fear no man”

J: That’s one of yours too, Tony!
Brian: Hahahahaha!
T: I know, but I can’t remember it, can I? Have you got the lyrics to all the songs there? ‘Cos that could be really helpful! When we’re done can we have that bit of paper off you? We’ll need it for the tour!

Correct lyric: ”Open up the mind and the beat goes bam!"

Current Score: 0/3

4) ‘Around The World’

First line: “Shout to the north, to the south, to the east, to the west”

Terry: Under your vest! Hahaha!
J: To the home I love best.
Tony: There you go!
B: Where my soul can rest… yes!”
Tony: Brilliant!

Correct lyric: “To the home I love best / Where my soul can rest - yes!”

Current Score: 1/4

5) ‘Stay Another Day’

First line: “I touch your face while you are sleeping”

Tony: Did ya? I didn’t feel nothing!
B: And hold your hand.
J: Don’t understand.
Terry: What’s going on.
Tony: Perfect.

Correct lyric: ”And hold your hand - don't understand what's going on”

Current Score: 2/5

6) ‘Steam’

First line: “Steam like a cream dream, never stop rising”

All: I’ll rub you like a wave going out while the tide’s in!
Tony: I ain’t saying nothing! If my daughters see me now, singing stuff like that, they’ll be, like: “Oi! Dad! What you doing!? Ugh, God! No! He’s got his belly out!

Correct lyric: “I'll rub you like a wave going out while the tide's in”

Current Score: 3/6

7) ‘Let It Rain’

First line: “Cut the groove to make it rough like a chainsaw”

J: Erm… smooth with the move?
Brian: BLEEP! We need rehearsals!
Tony: Big time, mate! I might be changing these lyrics for the tour!
Brian: Good, ‘cos the only ones I can remember are “It’s alright, it’s alright, it’s really alright.” And that’s it!
J: And “Everybody in the… something or other!”
B: We’ll have to get the fans to hold the lyrics up for us.
Tony: Bit higher, love!
B: Chorus, repeat times two !

Correct lyric: ”Inject the beat, eat meat like a carnivore”

Final Score: a moderately respectable… okay, a pretty rubbish three out of seven. But enjoy the tour, lads!
